It’s taken a few years to figure out my backcountry en plein air set up, being mindful of weight, seasonal temperatures, and of leaving no trace.

It’s been worth it.

There’s something magical about the experience of painting in these places, only accessible by canoe. Here, you’re fully immersed in the landscape, adapting to the movement of the water and sky, the changing light, and even the bug bites. Instead of simply documenting a place, you’re capturing the feeling, bringing home a little piece of what it felt like to be there.

This particular backcountry canoe trip in Algonquin Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada was a much needed getaway from the pressures of everyday life, providing a peaceful few days connected to nature, paddling, painting, and surrounded by water lilies.
