Andrea Brand
Andrea Brand is a multidisciplinary artist based in Kincardine, Ontario. She holds a Fine Art Diploma with Honours from Georgian College.
Working in drawing, painting, and photography, she finds inspiration in the natural world, often exploring our connection to place by incorporating a human figure or man-made element. Through subtle gestural strokes and textures, her work traces the lines between land and light, presence and absence.
Andrea is currently developing her own techniques for working with charcoal on canvas, including the process of making her own charcoal. This evolving practice deepens the tactile relationship between medium and subject.
In her recent work, she allows fragments of charcoal to fall freely below the horizon line. This distinctive approach, which she refers to as fallen charcoal, invites gravity, motion, and chance to become part of the mark making.
As an avid wilderness canoeist, Andrea’s creative vision is shaped by her backcountry journeys into the landscapes that inspired early and mid-20th century Canadian painters.
In 2021, she completed a solo canoe trip in Killarney, Ontario, and continues to embark on multiple trips each season, pursuing the art of adventure.
